NailTech:: Old bulbs

I was told in a class that if your bulbs has a dark smoked look around the base of the bulb that they need changed. I have 40 hours left on my CND bulbs and they already look like that. Do you guys think that is true? I hate to waste the rest of the hours but I don't want to start having problems either.
